About the fishing here

Vättern is long, narrow, cold and unusually clear, with visibility that can reach more than ten metres down. The water is nutrient poor, so fish grow slowly, and the lake is best known for Arctic char, salmon, trout and whitefish. Char and trout have closed seasons and protected areas that differ between counties, so read up with the county board before you fish.

The usual catches here are Brown Trout, Whitefish, Arctic Char, Atlantic Salmon and European Perch.

Brown Trout is generally most active around May-Jun, Sep-Oct. The best windows are usually dawn and dusk.

No permit is needed to fish here with handheld tackle. Napp ranks the species above from the live weather, water temperature, season and time of day, so the order changes through the day.
