About the fishing here
Vänern is big enough to behave like an inland sea, with two open basins, Dalbosjön in the west and Värmlandssjön in the east, and long archipelagos between them. Trolling for salmon and trout draws the most anglers, while pike, perch and zander hold in the bays and among the islands. Weather turns fast on open water, so read the forecast before you head out.
Anglers here regularly land Zander, Northern Pike, Brown Trout, Whitefish, Atlantic Salmon and European Perch.
Zander fishing is usually best around Jun-Aug. The best windows are usually dawn and dusk.
No permit is needed to fish here with handheld tackle. Napp ranks the species above from the live weather, water temperature, season and time of day, so the order changes through the day.
