About the fishing here
The Kalix river is one of Sweden's four undammed national rivers, 430 kilometres of free water from the Kebnekaise massif down to the Gulf of Bothnia at Kalix, without a single power station. Wild salmon are the draw and gather at Jockfall, the river's largest waterfall, where the fish way counts salmon, trout, grayling and whitefish every summer. Between the rapids lie long slow reaches holding pike and perch. Through the Tärendö älv bifurcation the Kalix is joined to the Torne river system, a rare thing anywhere in the world.
The usual catches here are Northern Pike, Brown Trout, Whitefish, Atlantic Salmon, European Perch and Grayling.
For Northern Pike, the fishing tends to peak around Apr-May, Sep-Oct. The best windows are usually dawn and dusk.
A fishing permit (fiskekort) is required here. Napp ranks the species above from the live weather, water temperature, season and time of day, so the order changes through the day.
