About the fishing here

Hjälmaren was lowered in the 1880s and has been a shallow lake ever since, with a mean depth of only a few metres. The coloured, nutrient-rich water warms fast in spring, and the lake counts as one of Sweden's best zander waters, with pike and perch in the same bays. Shallow water also builds a chop quickly, so keep an eye on the gusts.

The usual catches here are Zander, Common Bream, Northern Pike and European Perch.

For Zander, the fishing tends to peak around Jun-Aug. The best windows are usually dawn, dusk and night.

No permit is needed to fish here with handheld tackle. Napp ranks the species above from the live weather, water temperature, season and time of day, so the order changes through the day.
