About Brown Trout

A beautiful, wary salmonid of clean, cold water. Big lake trout hunt whitefish and smelt. In a stream it holds in the seam behind a rock or under a cut bank, facing the current and waiting for food to arrive. Approach from downstream, keep low and cast short, because the fish sees you long before you see it. Small spinners, nymphs and a drifted dry fly all work when the presentation is quiet.

Typical size: Stream trout 25-40 cm, lake trout often 50-80 cm. Record (approx.): ≈ 17 kg.
