About the fishing here
Lake Tahoe is a huge, deep alpine lake straddling the California-Nevada state line, famous for water so clear you can see far down into it. Lake trout, some of them very large, hold deep most of the year and are the fish serious anglers here chase with downriggers. Rainbow trout fill in closer to the surface and near the shoreline structure. The lake rarely freezes and fishes year round, though winter storms can make the open water rough.
Popular catches here include Rainbow Trout and Lake Trout.
For Rainbow Trout, the fishing tends to peak around Apr-May, Sep-Oct. The best windows are usually dawn, day and dusk.
A state fishing license is required to fish here. Napp ranks the species above from the live weather, water temperature, season and time of day, so the order changes through the day.
