An adaptable whiskered bottom feeder. Smells out bait in warm water, most active at night. Cut bait, chicken liver and stinkbait all work because it hunts by smell rather than sight, so coloured water is no problem. Fish the bottom of a hole, an outside river bend or the downstream side of a wing dam and give it time to find the bait. Warm summer nights after rain are the best of it, when it moves shallow to feed.
Typical size: Usually 1-4 kg, big fish over 7 kg. Record (approx.): ≈ 26 kg.
