About Three-spot Tilapia
A robust southern African tilapia of the Zambezi, Okavango and Kafue systems, found in floodplains, lagoons and slow river backwaters. It takes small spinners, flies and bait around weed beds and warm shallows, and is most active in the warmer months. A scrappy fighter for its size and excellent eating, it is a popular fly and light-tackle target.
Typical size: Typically 0.5 to 1.5 kg; trophy fish over 3 kg. Record (approx.): approx. 4 kg (varies by region).
