About Tench

Green, slimy and strong. Roots in soft beds in warm lakes, mostly at dawn and dusk. Fine strings of bubbles over a silty margin are the sign that a shoal is already feeding there. A simple float rig with worm or sweetcorn, laid tight to the weed, is all the tackle it takes. The fight is slow and stubborn rather than fast, and it heads straight back into the weed.

Typical size: Usually 30-45 cm. Record (approx.): ≈ 3 kg.
