A massive deep-bodied Amazon characin related to pacu, feeding heavily on fruits, seeds and nuts in the flooded forest during high water. Anglers fish with fruit, nuts or dough baits near overhanging trees, and it can be caught on fly imitating dropping fruit. It has powerful crushing teeth and pulls like a freight train, so use strong, abrasion-resistant gear.
