About Summer Flounder

Fluke, a left-eyed flatfish that ambushes from sand and channels along the Atlantic coast in summer. It lies buried with only the eyes showing and takes what passes above it, so a bait that drags along the bottom beats one that swims high. Drift with the tide over sand, along channel edges and around inlet mouths, keeping the rig ticking the bottom as you go. The take is often just extra weight on the line, so drop the rod tip and let it turn the bait before setting the hook.

Typical size: Usually 1-3 kg, doormats over 4 kg. Record (approx.): ≈ 12 kg.
