An air-breathing ambush predator of warm Asian ponds, paddies, canals and slow rivers, often found in thick weed and shallow margins. It crushes frogs, soft plastics and topwater walkers with a violent surface strike, best fished early and late in the day. A guarding fish near a brood of fry can be provoked into a reaction hit, so cast right at the bubbling fry ball.
