About Snapper
This snapper is one of the most popular inshore gamefish in Australia and New Zealand, a pink-spotted reef and sand-bottom feeder that hunts shellfish, crabs and baitfish. It is taken on baited rigs, soft-plastic jigs and the slow-jigged tai-rubber style over reef edges and broken bottom. Big fish, known as old men or moochers, hold near structure and pull hard on the way up.
Typical size: Commonly 1 to 5 kg; trophy fish over 10 kg. Record (approx.): approx. 17 kg (varies by region).
