Silver Carp fishing

Hypophthalmichthys molitrix

About Silver Carp

The silver carp is a large filter-feeding cyprinid that strains plankton from the water column, making it nearly impossible to catch on conventional bait or lures. It is best known for its alarming habit of leaping high out of the water when startled by boat motors. Where present it is usually taken by snagging, bow fishing or fine paste rigs rather than by orthodox angling.

Typical size: Commonly 3 to 15 kg; trophy fish over 25 kg. Record (approx.): approx. 30 kg (varies by region).
