The silver arowana is a long, ribbon-bodied surface predator of the Amazon, nicknamed the water monkey for its habit of leaping to snatch insects and even small birds from overhanging branches. Strikes are visual and explosive, but the bony mouth makes solid hooksets a real challenge.
