The robalo is a cool-water predator of the Patagonian coast and estuaries of southern Chile, often found where rivers meet the sea. It feeds on small fish and crustaceans in the brackish zone, taking spoons, soft plastics and bait around tidal flats and river mouths. Time your fishing to the tide, since the bite turns on as the current moves baitfish through.
Typical size: Typically 1 to 3 kg; trophy fish over 5 kg. Record (approx.): approx. 6 kg (varies by region).
