About Redbreast Tilapia

The redbreast tilapia is a colourful African cichlid of the Zambezi and Okavango systems, named for the reddish flush on its belly. It grazes on plants and detritus in weedy shallows and floodplain lagoons, taking small baits, bread and tiny lures. Light tackle around vegetation and quiet margins is the most productive approach.

Typical size: Typically 0.3 to 1 kg; trophy fish around 2 kg. Record (approx.): approx. 2.5 kg (varies by region).
