About Red Seabream
The red seabream, known as madai in Japan, is a prized coastal fish caught over rocky bottoms, reefs and sandy edges. It is the classic target of the Japanese tai-rubber jig technique, where a soft skirted jig is dropped to the bottom and slow-wound up. It takes baited rigs and jigs alike and is most active around the spring spawning run.
Typical size: Commonly 1 to 4 kg; trophy fish over 8 kg. Record (approx.): approx. 9 kg (varies by region).
