This piranha is a sharp-toothed shoaling predator of Venezuelan rivers and floodplains, feeding on fish, insects and anything that struggles at the surface. Anglers catch them readily on small pieces of cut bait and bright spoons fished in slower pools and backwaters. Use a short wire or heavy mono trace and unhook with pliers, since their teeth are genuinely dangerous.
