The pira-pita is a powerful South American characin of the Parana basin, a strong runner that takes both lures and fruit-based baits. It feeds in fast water around rapids and pools, hitting spoons, spinners and small plugs as well as drifting fruit. It is a favourite among Argentine river anglers for its blistering, acrobatic fight.
