Here the name refers to the Midas cichlid, a feisty, often gold-orange Central American lake fish that defends territory aggressively. It eats snails, insects, small fish and plant matter, and readily attacks small lures, flies and bait near rocky shorelines and submerged structure. It is a fun light-tackle target that punches well above its size, especially during the breeding season.
