About Milkfish
A streamlined, silver schooling fish of tropical coasts and lagoons, the milkfish grazes on algae and tiny organisms and is famous among fly anglers for its blistering, almost bonefish-like runs. It has a small mouth and is hard to hook, so tiny algae-imitating flies or bread-paste baits drifted into feeding shoals are the trick. Once hooked it tears off in long, fast runs that strip the reel.
Typical size: Commonly 50 to 90 cm; trophies over 1.2 m and 14 kg. Record (approx.): approx. 20 kg (varies by region).
