About Meagre
A large, croaking drum of warm eastern Atlantic and Mediterranean coasts, the meagre hunts baitfish and squid along surf beaches, estuaries and harbour mouths. It is a sought-after sportfish that takes live bait, large soft plastics and lures, especially around dawn, dusk and moving tides near river mouths. Bigger fish gather where freshwater meets the sea and bait is concentrated.
Typical size: Commonly 70 to 120 cm; trophies over 1.5 m and 30 kg. Record (approx.): approx. 50 kg (varies by region).
