About Mandarin Fish
A prized Chinese freshwater predator with a blotched, camouflaged body, the mandarin fish ambushes small fish from cover in lakes, reservoirs and slow rivers. It is strongly piscivorous, so live minnows, small soft plastics and minnow-style lures fished near submerged structure are most effective. It feeds best in low light and warmer months, lying tight to weed beds, timber and rocks.
Typical size: Commonly 25 to 40 cm; larger fish to about 60 cm. Record (approx.): approx. 5 kg (varies by region).
