About Mahseer
A legendary hard-fighting carp of fast South Asian rivers, the mahseer is often called the tiger of the water for its blistering runs and power. It feeds on insects, crustaceans, fruit and small fish in boulder-strewn runs and pools, taking spoons, deep-diving plugs and natural baits. Strong tackle and abrasion-resistant line are essential as it heads straight for rocks when hooked.
Typical size: Commonly 50 to 90 cm; trophies over 1.2 m and 25 kg. Record (approx.): approx. 50 kg (varies by region).
