About Mahi-Mahi (Dorado)
Brilliantly coloured and lightning fast, the mahi-mahi or dorado is one of the world's great offshore sportfish, often found around floating debris, weed lines and frigate birds. It crashes trolled lures, ballyhoo, poppers and flies, fights with spectacular jumps and travels in schools, so keep one hooked fish in the water to hold the pack. Look for it in warm blue water, especially near current edges and any floating cover.
Typical size: Commonly 70 to 110 cm; trophies over 1.4 m and 18 kg. Record (approx.): approx. 30 kg (varies by region).
