About Leerfish
Also called garrick, the leerfish is a hard-charging predatory jack of the Mediterranean and southern African coasts that smashes baitfish in the surf and around rocky points. It is an explosive sportfish that crashes topwater lures, large spoons and live bait, then makes long powerful runs. Fish for it in the wash and white water, especially when mullet or other bait are being herded against the shore.
Typical size: Commonly 60 to 100 cm; trophies over 1.2 m and 20 kg. Record (approx.): approx. 25 kg (varies by region).
