The suzuki is Japan's premier inshore lure target, an ambush predator prowling river mouths, harbours and surf for baitfish. It is the focus of a huge seabass lure scene, hitting minnows, vibration baits and topwaters fished along current seams and structure. Night fishing under lights and tide changes are prime, especially in spring and autumn.
Typical size: Commonly 50 to 80 cm; trophies over 90 cm and 8 kg. Record (approx.): approx. 12 kg (varies by region).
