About Indo-Pacific Tarpon
A smaller cousin of the Atlantic tarpon, this silver, hard-jumping fish roams estuaries, mangrove creeks and lower rivers across the Indo-Pacific. It tolerates brackish and even fresh water and feeds on small fish and shrimp, often rolling at the surface to gulp air. Small lures, flies and live bait fished at dawn and dusk around current edges produce best.
Typical size: Commonly 30 to 60 cm; larger fish to around 1 m. Record (approx.): approx. 18 kg (varies by region).
