About Iberian Barbel
A hardy, bottom-feeding barbel native to rivers and reservoirs of the Iberian Peninsula, holding in current over gravel and rock and feeding on invertebrates and plant matter. Anglers fish bread, worm, corn and sweetcorn on light bottom rigs, and take them on small lures and fly in summer. It pulls steadily and stays deep, giving a dogged fight in flowing water.
Typical size: Typically 0.5 to 2 kg; trophy fish exceed 4 kg. Record (approx.): approx. 5 kg (varies by region).
