About Grayling

The "lady of the stream", with a tall dorsal fin. Rises to insects in flowing northern water. It feeds on whatever is hatching, so watching the surface for a few minutes tells you more than any fly box. A small dry fly on a still summer evening, or a weighted nymph drifted along the bottom on a colder day, covers most of the season. The mouth is soft and the fish tires fast, so play it quickly and keep it in the water.
