Plectropomus leopardus

About Coral Trout

A brilliant red coral-reef predator and one of the most prized table fish of tropical reefs. It ambushes from coral heads and ledges, hitting jigs, soft plastics and trolled lures hard before bolting for the reef. Keep the drag tight and lift fast, or it will bury you in the coral.

Typical size: Typically 40 to 60 cm and 2 to 5 kg; trophy fish exceed 80 cm and 10 kg. Record (approx.): approx. 12 kg (varies by region).
