About Atlantic Cod

A classic table fish on the west coast. Holds deep over reefs and wrecks, most active in cold water. Winter and early spring, in the deeper fjord holes and along the edges, is when a boat trip is worth the diesel. A heavy pirk or a shad worked right on the bottom, lifted and dropped, is the method that has not changed in decades. Stocks are under pressure, so keep what you will eat and let the rest go.

Typical size: Usually 40-70 cm. Record (approx.): ≈ 20 kg.
