Cobia fishing

Rachycentron canadum

About Cobia

A curious, powerful open-water fish that often shadows rays, sharks, buoys and wrecks, sometimes rising to the boat to investigate. Sight-cast big bucktail jigs, eels or live bait at cruising fish, and hold on for a stubborn, bulldogging fight. They are notorious for going wild once boatside, so be ready.

Typical size: Typically 10 to 25 kg; trophy fish exceed 40 kg. Record (approx.): approx. 60 kg (varies by region).
