About Bonefish
The bonefish is the classic silver ghost of tropical shallow flats, a wary, fast schooling fish that tails and feeds over sand and turtle grass on the tide. It is the premier saltwater fly-fishing target, sight-fished on the flats by casting small shrimp and crab flies or light jigs ahead of cruising or tailing fish. Hooking one triggers a blistering reel-screaming run across the flat, and because it is poor eating, bonefish are almost universally released.
Typical size: Usually 1-3 kg; trophies over 5 kg, to about 75 cm. Record (approx.): approx. 6 kg (varies by region).
