This roundjaw bonefish is the Indo-Pacific cousin of the Atlantic bonefish, a silver, hard-running flats fish that tails over sand and coral rubble on tropical tides around the Seychelles and beyond. It is sight-fished on the flats with small shrimp and crab flies or light jigs cast ahead of feeding fish, the cornerstone of saltwater fly fishing in the region. It makes the same explosive, line-peeling runs as its Atlantic relative and is almost always carefully released.
Typical size: Usually 1-3 kg; trophies over 4 kg, to about 70 cm. Record (approx.): approx. 5 kg (varies by region).
