The Atlantic bluefin tuna is the giant of the tuna family, a warm-blooded, torpedo-shaped oceanic predator that ranges the Mediterranean and Atlantic and has returned in numbers to northern European waters. It is targeted offshore by trolling, casting to surface-feeding fish and live-baiting, on the heaviest stand-up and big-game tackle. A hooked bluefin sounds deep and pulls with almost unstoppable power for long, exhausting fights, making it the most prestigious big-game fish in European seas and now tightly regulated.
