About Blue Tilapia
The blue tilapia is a hardy, warm-water cichlid widely found and farmed across the Middle East and beyond, thriving in lakes, reservoirs and warm canals and tolerant of brackish water. Anglers catch it on small hooks with bread, dough, worms and vegetable baits fished near the bottom in warm, weedy margins, and it can be aggressive around its nests in the breeding season. It is a popular, easy-to-target panfish and an important food species across much of its range.
Typical size: Usually 0.3-1 kg; trophies over 2 kg, to about 45 cm. Record (approx.): approx. 3 kg (varies by region).
