About Blue Marlin

The blue marlin is the iconic blue-water billfish, a fast, deep-bodied apex predator that roams the open tropical and subtropical oceans far offshore. It is targeted by trolling big skirted lures and rigged baits across blue water, current edges and seamounts, on the heaviest big-game tackle. Hooking one means scorching runs, spectacular leaps and a long, brutal fight from a fish that can exceed several hundred kilos, the ultimate offshore trophy and now mostly released.

Typical size: Usually 80-200 kg; trophies over 400 kg, to about 4 m. Record (approx.): approx. 600 kg (varies by region).
