About Black Marlin
The black marlin is one of the largest and fastest billfish in the world, a heavy-bodied apex predator of tropical and warm-temperate seas, often found near reefs, drop-offs and bait concentrations. It is targeted offshore by trolling large rigged baits and lures, and live-baiting around bait schools, on heavy big-game tackle. Hooking one means blistering runs and powerful greyhounding jumps from a fish that can top several hundred kilos, making it a true bucket-list catch usually released.
Typical size: Usually 100-250 kg; trophies over 500 kg, to about 4.5 m. Record (approx.): approx. 700 kg (varies by region).
