About Bighead Carp
The bighead carp is a huge, large-headed filter feeder of Asian rivers and lakes, straining plankton from the water with fine gill rakers rather than eating lures or baits. Because it does not normally take a hook, it is usually caught with very fine suspended baits, paste rigs in productive green water, or sometimes by snagging where legal. It grows enormous and pulls with heavy, dogged power, making any deliberate capture of a big bighead a notable feat.
Typical size: Usually 5-15 kg; trophies over 30 kg, to about 1.2 m. Record (approx.): approx. 40 kg (varies by region).
