About Bigeye Tuna
The bigeye tuna is a deep-bodied, large-eyed oceanic tuna built for cool, deep water during the day and feeding nearer the surface at dawn and dusk. Anglers target it offshore by trolling lures and rigged baits, deep-dropping and chunking, often over seamounts and temperature breaks. It pulls with the relentless, deep, sounding power typical of big tunas, demanding heavy stand-up tackle and long fights to bring one to the boat.
Typical size: Usually 25-80 kg; trophies over 150 kg, to about 2 m. Record (approx.): approx. 180 kg (varies by region).
