The Australian salmon is not a true salmon but a powerful schooling fish of cool southern coasts of Australia and New Zealand, often seen hunting baitfish in surf gutters and along headlands. It fights with strong, dogged runs and is a hugely popular surf and rock target, though many anglers prize the sport more than the table.
