The Atlantic sailfish is a slender, lightning-fast billfish famous for its huge sail-like dorsal fin and its spectacular jumps when hooked. It is targeted offshore by trolling rigged baits and lures or by sight-casting and kite-fishing to fish raised behind teasers. Its blistering runs, greyhounding leaps and the visual drama of a lit-up sail make it one of the most prized light-tackle big-game catches, almost always released.
Typical size: Usually 15-30 kg; trophies over 45 kg, to about 3 m. Record (approx.): approx. 55 kg (varies by region).
