About Amur Catfish
The Amur catfish is a smooth-skinned East Asian relative of the European wels, common in slow rivers, canals and lakes across China, Korea and Japan. It is a nocturnal bottom hunter taken on dead fish, worms and stink baits fished still on the bottom, especially in warm summer nights. It is leaner than the wels but still a strong, dogged fish that hugs the bottom and uses cover during the fight.
Typical size: Usually 1-5 kg; trophies over 10 kg, to about 1 m. Record (approx.): approx. 15 kg (varies by region).
