About Spotted Seatrout

Speckled trout of grass flats and bays. A low-light inshore predator of the South coast. Grass flats with sandy holes in them are the classic ground, the fish sits over the sand and watches the edge of the grass. A soft plastic on a jig head or a suspending twitchbait worked slowly along that edge is enough most days. Cold snaps push it into deep canals and creeks, where it stacks up and can be caught all winter.

Typical size: Usually 1-2 kg, gator trout over 3 kg. Record (approx.): ≈ 8 kg.
