Flathead Catfish fishing

Pylodictis olivaris

About Flathead Catfish

A big river predator that wants live bait. Holds in deep cover and hunts hard after dark. It wants something alive, a live sunfish or a big shiner on the bottom, and it mostly ignores the cut bait that catches its cousins. Log jams, undercut banks and the deep end of a river hole are where it spends the day. Set up in the evening and expect the run to come after midnight, this is fishing you do sitting down.

Typical size: Often 3-15 kg, big fish over 25 kg. Record (approx.): ≈ 56 kg.
